The precise location of a property can have a significant bearing on the insurance rates for the property owners. It will also determine if the owners should participate in FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program. It is possible that two properties that are within a few hundred feet might be in different flood zones and in order to make an accurate determination as to whether or not a property is within a particular zone, an accurate mapping tool is needed.
Solution:
XMap 5.0 GIS Editor is a fully functional yet easy-to-use, GIS software solution that will offer virtually any government agency or organization concerned with flood zone determination, the tools needed to ascertain status of a property quickly and accurately. XMap’s geocoding tool is first used to plot the location of each subject property by matching addresses to a highly detailed digital base map. Flood zone polygons, can be imported, created or modified using a digital elevation model to analyze contours and terrain. This data layer can then be classified and shaded to visually distinguish the individual zones. Geometric queries can then be performed on the address database to determine which properties lie within specified zones. Within minutes, the flood zone for any given property can be easily determined.
