YARMOUTH, Maine — DeLorme, the innovation leader in GPS and mapping technology, today announced an upgrade path to the compact, high-performance STMicroelectronics Teseo receiver chip for its original equipment manufacturer (OEM) GPS Module program.
The new DeLorme GPS2058 module provides superior capabilities from a dime-sized (16x16 mm) footprint. It contains a complete GPS positioning engine for fast and precise position fixes in a wide variety of applications.
The surface mount module contains an RF front end and complete GPS receiver in a 16x16mm package— just add an external antenna, serial communications, and power source to produce GPS positional data.
“STMicroelectronics Teseo technology offers world-class performance, and we’re very excited to be able to provide a Teseo-based GPS module solution,” said Brian Stearns, OEM product manager for DeLorme.
“The DeLorme GPS2058 module offers our mutual customers all the benefits of our high-performance Teseo GPS technology without requiring large investments in GPS test or RF design expertise,” added Jeff Wilson, STMicroelectronics Technical Marketing Manager. “DeLorme’s Teseo module is the right choice for lower volume applications or for customers new to GPS design.”
The GPS2058 Module features a very fast 39 second time to first fix from a cold start and a highly sensitive RF front end able to acquire and track signals at very low signal levels. The typical position accuracy obtainable is less than 2 meters.
Beginning in late January, DeLorme will be offering a complete evaluation kit that can be used for development or as a reference design. The kit is a complete plug-and-play GPS navigation system, including a circuit board with a GPS2058 module, a USB cable, power adapter, active antenna, and Street Atlas USA® 2008 software.
The STMicroelectronics GPS receiver technology is also the GPS engine for the DeLorme Earthmate line of GPS receivers for the consumer market. The GPS2058 will be available through DeLorme’s distribution partners, including Arrow, Avnet, Digi-key, Future, and NuHorizons.
