DeLorme has been directly responsible for many of the major technological advances made in the mapping industry over the past 30 years. Highlights of the DeLorme history of innovation include:
1976: Publication of the first paperback state Atlas & Gazetteer™, now available for all states and the leading series of its kind
1985: Early explorations with CD-ROM technology lead to government contract work and the beginnings of the digital mapping industry. Many of DeLorme's early patents directly revolutionized how maps are made
1991: Street Atlas USA®, the first consumer CD-ROM mapping product, becomes a huge success and helps establish the entire CD-ROM product category
1992: Map'n'Go® introduces the first mapping product capable of generating automatic routing
1995: The DeLorme GPS receiver becomes an immediate sensation, introducing GPS capabilities to broad markets
1996: DeLorme is the first map publisher to develop and market software for Palm® devices
1999: DeLorme 3-D TopoQuads® DVD and CD products widen professional market access to digital topographic maps
2000: DeLorme forms a new Applied Geospatial Solutions line of business to develop affordable professional and business solutions
2001: XMap® professional product line released to rave reviews. This flexible, modular software and data combination expands the total GIS market
2002: DeLorme releases XMap HandHeld Street Atlas Edition — navigation software for Palm OS and Pocket PC handheld devices
2003: Earthmate USB released — WAAS enabled, submeter capable with postprocessing software. TopoBird airborne platform announced — a collaborative effort to collect 3-D imagery and vector models for all major metropolitan areas in the US
2005: Introduction of the Earthmate GPS LT-20, the first laptop GPS receiver priced under $100
2005: DeLorme offers Aerial Data Packets (aerial and satellite imagery, USGS 7.5 minute quads) in Topo USA, with routing and editing capabilities included
2006: DeLorme Street Atlas USA titles make aerial and satellite imagery available, and enable mobile users to take maps on their iPods and other portable media players
2007: DeLorme introduces two new groundbreaking GPS receivers. The high-performance Earthmate GPS PN-20 is the first handheld receiver capable of displaying DeLorme software maps and Aerial Data Packets. For PDA and laptop users, the unique Earthmate GPS BT-20 enables connectivity via either Bluetooth or USB, for the ultimate in flexibility
